Third Meeting - October 19, 2015

Third Meeting

Session 2 of "My Life Series" focused on "My Family."  For the scribe badge, our Girl Scouts wrote a limmerick, a haiku and a short story.  The poems were fun to read aloud.  The stories focused on a favorite memory with family.  After writing their stories, the girls split into two teams and read each other what they had written.  Each group picked one story to act out.

We also talked about gardening.  We discussed why some plants grow well in our climate, what they need to produce food and how that can help our families save money and eat healthy.  The girls each planted a flower to take home and grow in a windowsill..

Second Meeting - October 5, 2015

Second Meeting

Our second meeting this year, on October 5, 2015, we started "My Life Series - badge sampler of everyday life skills."  Our Junior Troop will spend six meetings exploring 10 different badges, from Inside Goverment to Social Butterfly.  Each session will have a unifying theme:

  • MY SELF (October 5)
  • MY FAMILY (October 19)
  • MY COMMUNITY (November 2)
  • MY MONEY (November 16)
  • MY ENVIRONMENT (December 7)
  • MY FRIENDS (December 21)

During the "My Self" meeting we explored the Independence badge and the Staying Fit badge.  The girls learned the importance of reading food labels and what they mean.  They stayed pretty clean while we looked under the hood of a car and discovered how to check oil levels.  Then they had lots of fun discussing different ways of relaxing and taking time for yourself while we made bath salts and tried a few yoga poses.

First Meeting - September 21, 2015

First Meeting

We held our first meeting of this year on Monday September 21st.  All of the Junior and Senior girls at the meeting are returning from last year. We talked about some of the activities we want to try, some of the badges we want to work on and the projects we might be able to do to complete the Get Moving Journey and to earn the Bronze Award.

All the girls seem pretty excited about the prospect of planting a tree for the Get Moving Journey and building Little Free Libraries in their communities.  There is a website that has kits for sale to build the Little Free Libraries, or we can build them from scratch.  Either way, we will probably need volunteers to help!  More information to come later.
